Warung Tenda Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

there's this place in mangga besar..
it's only open in the evening after maghrib, this one block sells makanan medan..
called kuch kuch hota hai..

why the indian film as the name of the warung tenda?
because the owner is a indian decent medan guy :)
he runs the place with his son..

and how do i know all this?
well my grandma is from medan, and that guy used to be neighbors with my grandma..
everybody knows everyone in medan/siantar as it seems haha..

the menu is very much medan food, dari roti cane, roti jala, kari ayam, kari kambing mie rebus medan, es campur medan, teh tarik, markisa, terong belanda..
the food is definitely for hard core spice fan, i grew up eating medan food in the first place so kari must be kental and medok bumbunya..

that one little block screams MEDAN..
heck you'll feel like you're in medan since all the vendors are medan people..
you won't be called 'mbak' in here but 'kak' :)

there's also es krim medan (pake roti-red), durian medan..
roti (the bread is different teksturnya agak kaya kapas, jadi ringan gitu) + srikaya medan..
apalagi ya? BANYAK DEH..

as an appetizer me and hasp makan sate kerang 5 tusuk..
then i ordered roti cane with kari kambing..
hasp and my bro ordered mie rebus medan..

mie rebus medan is something like mie aceh, but not exactly like it..
bentuk mienya kaya spaghetti gitu..
the kari was WOW yummy, if you've been to gampoeng aceh in bandung..
well it's the same, thick and very well spiced..

as a dessert pesen es campur medan..
and i bought ketan srikaya pandan plus some bread and selai srikaya for hasp's mom who has been really kind sending me food as always :)

Wendy's and 2nd bite

what is it about baked potato?
is it the potato itself or the topping that gives it flavor?
anyways..

me and baked potato go way back..
i remember one cold winter day i was accompanying my mom in Times Square..
it was FREEZING and lunch time came..

now everyone in this world must have felt hunger sometime in their life..
but being hungry is a cold winter state is different..
you get so hungry that your stomach growls so loud and if you don't fill your stomach ASAP you start to tremble..
this is what my mom calls "laper PANIK!!", because honestly at that state you'll feel like grabbing food out of people's hand *hyperbol haha*

so there i was hungry and whiny, which is a bad combination our of my characters :D
suddenly walking by there was this stand on a car selling baked potato..
i remember it being $ 3.50, i ordered baked potato with chilly..
baked potatonya bener2 freshly baked dan ukurannya gede banget secara potato amerika..
trus masih dibungkus pake aluminium foil and they just pour chilly on top panas2..
hmmmmmmmmmmmm it was yummy..

i no longer feel the hunger during winter time since there is no winter time here *DUH*..
but the craving for baked potato comes once in a while..
and today was the day..
the only place that sells decent baked potato is Wendy's, i usually order the one with chilly but i didn't feel like it today..
so i ordered brocolli and cheese instead and the biggest frosty as a dessert..

oh yes my cdma is back, i picked it up today in pacific place..
they didn't charge me anything since masih ada garansinya..
i put it in last saturday and today is friday so 6 days service?
not bad Nokia, not bad..

trus my bro wanted to buy a new cdma, so we went to itc kuningan/ambassador mall..
and there was this bread store, bakery specializing in bread has been quite popular here because of the Bread Talk histeria..
2nd bite is one of it, it claims no preservatives..


turtle blueberry bread

i bought the turtle blueberry bread because the shape was cute..
it reminded me of the spider peanut bread that bread talk has..
for Rp 7.000 it tasted like CRAP..
biasa banget, cuman bread trus dalemnya blueberry jam yg murah gitu..
i know it's those cheap kinds because i actually go to toko bahan kue to buy my baking supplies and they have cheap blueberry jams exactly like this one..
so my message is to stick my Bread Talk obviously they know how to make bread unlike some bakery jadi2an cuman ngikutin trend..

MAKEUP :)

a few days back, i saw a commercial of Revlon..

they now have this new collection of mineral make up which is the 'in' thing nowadays..
i don't usually fall for Revlon commercials because i like Maybelline better..
but this commercial starring Halle Berry is different..
i found myself staring at the screen throughout the whole commercial..
and something snapped inside me "PENGEN PUNYA YG ITU" *korban iklan-red*

and i bought it for Rp. 125.000 (yes pricey but i'm a big fan of make up haha)
of course i tried it on first to make sure it looks as natural as it claims to look on Halle Berry :)
and checked if it will make my skin to break out like that MAC powder i once had..
quite pleased with the result so far, thus bedak Maybelline istirahat dulu ya..
gantian sama Revlon hehe..

Maybelline has been my favorite line for cosmetics so far..
i swear by its volum' express hypercurl mascara in jet black, unstoppable smudge proof eyeliner in black, unstoppable brow liner in gray and lip smooth extra care in mint :)

other items in my makeup bag is eyeshadow which i rarely use, only for parties or going out..
i've been using Bourjois #41 (golden brown) and #53 (natural beiges)..
tadi sumpah udah gatel banget pengen beli eyeshadownya revlon yang kaya digambar but since i hardly use eyeshadows buat apa juga and plus the price tag of Rp. 110.000 is mengilfilkan :(

and since i don't like to use blushes because pink rosy cheeks isn't my thing..
but a healthy look of tan is more like it..
i use a bronzer by Bloom named Aloha.
i know the orangey color is a give off, just don't use too much to avoid the oompa loompa look hehe..

last but not least, the liquid eyeliner..
i love liquid eyeliners because they dramatize your eyes by oh so much..
and yes it takes so much practice (not a problem i've been doing my own makeup since junior high anyways haha) to get a hold of this baby..
my liquid eyeliner is by H&M, i bought it because it's cheap :)
but as far as my knowledge goes the best liquid eyeliner is the gel eyeliner by Bobby Brown (ada yg mau mampir ke changi airport ga? nitip donk!)

Perempuan Punya Cerita (Chants of Lotus)

last saturday while browsing for DVDs in ITC Kuningan, i stumbled upon this VCD..
i am a big fan of Indonesian movies but the good quality ones hehe..
i bought the VCD for Rp. 29.000..

"Perempuan punya Cerita adalah sebuah film omnibus yang disutradarai oleh 4 perempuan dan terdiri dari 4 cerita." oh wow, a movie consisting of 4 stories by 4 women :)

The first story is "Sumantri (Rieke Dyah Pitaloka), satu-satunya bidan yang tak tergantikan di sebuah pulau di luar tak jauh dari Jakarta divonis kanker (payudara stadium 3) oleh dokter dan harus dirawat di Jakarta. Wulan (Rachel Maryam) here she plays a retarded person, korban perkosaan dan hamil. Sumantri yang protektif berniat mengaborsi kandungan Wulan namun menghadapi dilema karena masyarakat setempat menentang keras aborsi."

The second story is about "Safina (Kirana Larasati) dan kelompoknya adalah pelajar SMA di Yogyakarta, kota turis dan pelajar. Akses luas internet membuat mereka bereksperimen dengan seks tanpa bekal pengetahuan yang lengkap. Seorang jurnalis, Jay Anwar (Fauzi Baadila) tiba di Yogya, Safina jatuh hati padanya dan ia yang naïf mempertaruhkan masa depannya untuk pria ini." Well not really like that, it was more like Safina the only virgin diantara temen2nya, then she met this journalis going undercover as a student from Jakarta. She promised herself that she's going to have sex with that someone special unlike her friends who experimented with sex because this whole wave of western culture in Jogja yang ga tersaring. She ended up having sex with Jay and turned disappointed when she knew that he's a journalis writing about the sexual behavior in today's teens.

Esi (Shanty) seorang pembersih WC di klab malam dangdut kerja keras untuk biaya hidup dan pendidikan putrinya, Maesaroh (Ken Nala Amrytha). Ia nyaris putus asa saat mendapati kekasihnya, Narto melecehkan Maesaroh. Beruntung, Cicih (Sarah Sechan), primadona klab memberikan perlindungan dan tempat tinggal. Saat membangun kembali mimpinya, Esi dihadapi kenyataan pahit bahwa Cicih dan Maesaroh terjerat sindikat perdagangan perempuan. This story is the one most heart wrenching at least for me. People in Indonesia are most tempted with money and better opportunities outside of their village. And this exactly what happens when poverty and kebodohan hits at the same time. Esi ended up loosing her daughter who's been sold and married to a Taiwanese old dude. Her daughter barely even finished junior high.

The fourth story is about "Laksmi (Susan Bachtiar) she plays a Chinese-Indonesian, janda beranak satu, kehilangan suaminya yang mengidap HIV/AIDS who comes from a wealthy Indonesian family. Keadaan semakin parah saat dirinya tertular penyakit tersebut dan keluarga suaminya bersikeras mengambil alih hak asuh putri mereka, Belinda (Ranti Maria). Naluri seorang Ibu membuatnya bertahan untuk mengasuh Belinda, namun mengasuh anak dengan kondisi yang makin lemah dan tanpa penghasilan, membuat Laksmi mengambil keputusan besar, demi memberikan yang terbaik bagi Belinda dan dirinya." The part where her mother-in-law blames the HIV on her and everything else bad that happens to her son on Laksmi, is most sinetron like. I like the way she nicknamed her kid Bebe though hehe..

EXPLODING IN..

today is october 8th 2008..
my mini thesis deadline is on december 21st 2008..

and i haven't started at all..
because there's this requirement of passing the comprehension tests first..

i've already done the written test on september 26th 2008..
now i'm waiting for my turn taking the oral test..

but there's no clear sign of when and where..
so bang please, don't make it harder than it already is..

i only have less than 2 months to write 5 chapters and to revise them..
that's short enough as it is..

so please please please let the test and the result be done by the end of this month..
so i can have my head start..

so i can make them proud..
so please bang..
